SUMMARY:
Adaptive Lacrosse PA is a 501(c)(3) corporation in Pennsylvania dedicated to providing differently-abled persons with the opportunity to learn and play the game of lacrosse. We were founded in 2016. Our programs are diverse, ranging from working with children to adults as well as alternative lacrosse programs.
Adaptive Lacrosse PA is the result of many years of contemplation. It started as a small idea in our Executive Director’s head several years ago. During this time, he and his father were enjoying their run as season ticket holders to the Philadelphia Wings, a run that started with a playoff game in 1997-resulting in season tickets the following year. Not many games were missed by them over the years; however his father’s health was in decline–a result of some service-connected disabilities stemming from his time in the Army during Vietnam. Lacrosse had become a strong bond for this father-son duo. It wasn’t until his father’s passing in August 2015, that Scott Smith embarked on the formation of the Adaptive program they had discussed previously in fleeting conversations. He knew that his father would be supportive of this program for many reasons. The program had now morphed with a further purpose. Originally, it was to be focused on children with disabilities. Now the desire to bring the sport to disabled veterans had been born.
Welcome to Adaptive Lacrosse PA…the home of Pennsylvania’s Adaptive Lacrosse program for youth and adults with disabilities.
MISSION:
Adaptive Lacrosse PA will provide physically and emotionally enriching opportunities and experiences for differently-abled individuals to enjoy the game of lacrosse. Through this specialized sports program, learning experiences that include physical, mental and emotional development and opportunities to socially interact in a team setting will be provided to each participant with the hope that they embrace, enjoy, and continue to participate in the sport for years to come.

HISTORY:
2/1/16–Official Formation of Adaptive Lacrosse PA and effective date of 501(c)(3) status
7/9/16–First Adaptive Lacrosse Clinic held
2/4/17–First Winter/Spring Season begins
6/3/17–First full Summer Season begins
11/15/17–Adaptive Lacrosse PA announces the RTF Therapeutic Lacrosse program
4/21/18–Adaptive Lacrosse PA holds FIRST Therapeutic Lacrosse session at the Children’s Home of Reading
